Millers crack over Easter

ROTHERHAM United will be glad to see the back of Easter after failing to pick up a single point from their two Bank Holiday weekend fixtures.

A 2-1 home reverse to Port Vale on Saturday was followed by a damaging 3-0 defeat at promotion rivals Aldershot Town yesterday, leaving the Millers six points adrift of the third and final automatic promotion place in League Two.

Allied to a 3-0 defeat at Notts County last week, Rotherham have now lost three matches on the bounce, their worst run of the season.

They now sit just two points away from eighth place and the prospect of dropping out of the play-off frame is very real unless results pick up in the remaining six games.

Individual errors cost Rotherham dearly at Aldershot as the home side pulled within a point of Ronnie Moore's men.

Dean Morgan seized upon a defensive mix-up between Gavin Gunning and Pablo Mills to shoot the home side into a 16th minute lead and although Rotherham rallied in the second half, with Adam Le Fondre foiled by two good saves, the Shots pulled away to score twice in the last ten minutes through Marvin Morgan and substitute Dean Howell.

A frustrated Moore said of his players: "I could hang them. They are driving me crackers at the moment. You can't defend like we did and expect to win. We certainly won't be in the top three and if they keep making the decisions they have at the back then we will be lucky to stay in the top seven. Everything has tightened up again."

Rotherham now face matches against two more sides chipping at their heels, away at Morecambe on Saturday and home to Northampton Town next Tuesday.
