Mickel Miller bids farewell to Rotherham United

The winger, who featured 30 times for the Millers this season as they won League One promotion and lifted Papa John's Trophy silverware at Wembley, announced his exit on social media.

His contract was coming to an end and the Millers have decided against offering him a new deal or activating an option to extend his present one by 12 months.

The 26-year-old is highly rated by manager Paul Warne and the coaching staff but a poor injury record has counted against him.

The club, who are expected to publish their retained list in the next few days, have said nothing official.

London-born Miller moved south of the border from Hamilton Academical in the summer of 2020 and made nine Championship appearances before a January loan switch to third-tier Northampton Town.

This term, he was an eye-catching Rotherham performer in a wing-back role on the left flank but was sidelined several times by hamstring issues.

He said on his Instagram page: "Two years have gone so fast. I couldn't ask for a better finish to my time at Rotherham United ... promotion and  cup final at Wembley.

"Thanks to all the staff and fans for making me feel so welcome and to all my teammates/brothers - what a group!"

One player who won't be leaving AESSEAL New York Stadium is captain Richard Wood.

The long-serving skipper has signed a new one-year and next season will be his ninth in a red-and-white shirt.
