Mexborough School's new starters of '66 to set for meet-up this month

THE hunt is on for the former students who started secondary school in Mexborough in 1966.

Specifically, the organisers of a school reunion want to track down members of the entry classes of Mexborough Grammar School for that year.

The reunion will be held at Mexborough Athletic Club on New Oxford Road at 8pm on Saturday, October 19.

Former pupils Giles Brearley, Hugh Simpson and Steve Simpson along with others have been trying to track all concerned but Giles said this had proved tough as the old pupils are now dispersed far and wide, all over the country, and some have married names.

“We have done well so far but need help to get the message out to more of our old school friends,” he said.

“If you attended yourself or knew someone who was there please ask them to contact us on the email address [email protected] we would love to hear from them.”

Hugh said “We are hoping to get some of our old teachers along as well.”

The school was only two years old and was one of the few with its own indoor swimming pool.

The evening will include a nostalgic PowerPoint presentation illustrating the old school, classes, sports and activities and of course plenty of pupils and teachers.
