DETECTIVES aiming to tackle organised crime in Mexborough have widened their net with a two-day operation targeting parts of Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley.

The action began yesterday (Monday) and includes executing warrants and carrying out stop and searches.

Det Insp Steve Smith (below), who is leading the operation, said: “This work is all about ridding our communities of organised crime and making them safer places to live.

“The entire task force is involved in today’s action, which we hope will send out a clear message that this criminality will not be tolerated in any part of South Yorkshire.”

He added: “We have been getting some great results in Mexborough, along with tremendous support from the local community.

“These criminals are targeting the young and the vulnerable to do their dirty work. But the message from us is clear: They’ll get fed up before we do.”
