Aiden Cook (28), of York Street, was spotted by officers who were patrolling Mexborough on May 4, as part of their efforts to eradicate organised crime in the area.

Cook was pursued by police after he rode off on his bike.

"He was arrested shortly after, riding into the back of the police van before officers jumped out and detained him," said a police spokeswoman.

He was arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and was found to be in possession of a plastic bag containing foil wraps, stuffed down his trousers.

Police also searched his home and found 280 wraps of crack cocaine with an estimated street value of £2,800.

Cook appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday (July 30) where he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply a class A drug.

He was jailed for four years.

Speaking after the hearing, Det Insp Steve Smith said officers had been working tirelessly to disrupt drug dealing, antisocial behaviour and organised crime in Mexborough, Conisbrough and Denaby.

“We want to give communities confidence in where they live again and know that they are in a safe environment, free from this type of criminality," he added.

“Ensuring drug dealers are behind bars has been a key part in that and this result is just one of a number of sentences we’ve seen imposed over recent months in relation to identifying organised crime group members and bringing them before the courts.

“Our efforts don’t stop after sentencing though. We will remain in these areas, doing the same thing day in and day out, identifying those involved in such criminality and keeping our communities safe.

“You can help us to do that, too. Speak to an officer in the area if you have concerns, or if you don’t want to speak to police you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
