Men in court over 'targeted attack' on woman

TWO men have appeared in court in connection with a "targeted attack" on a woman in the early hours of the morning

Michael Dunn (22), of Alpha Road, and Thomas Carlin (21), of Herringthorpe Valley Road, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court yesterday (Monday) following an incident on Saturday (July 7).

The men are charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. No pleas were entered and the pair was remanded into custody to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on August 8.

At around 3.40am on Saturday, police responded to reports that a 32-year-old woman had been assaulted and suffered head injuries on Herringthorpe Valley Road.

The woman was taken to hospital where she remained in a stable condition, said a police spokeswoman.

Two 17-year-old girls were also arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding and have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

PC Tom Jordan said: “An investigation is underway and we are appealing for anyone with information or dash-cam footage to please get in touch.

“We do believe this to be a targeted attack and will continue to review CCTV and carry out local enquires to establish the full circumstances surrounding the assault.”
