Maternity and family services open evening at Rotherham Hospital

A NEW monthly event aimed at showcasing the maternity and family services available in Rotherham is being launched this week.

Staff from The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust are joining forces with healthcare staff across the borough to provide an easy and accessible information and support network to be made available all in one place.

The event is aimed at soon-to-be and new parents who will be able to access information stalls and practical demonstrations as well as tips on how to give a baby the best start in life.

Angela Wood, chief nurse at the trust, said it was a fantastic opportunity for parents to find out more about the help and support available to them.

“We want to help families enjoy this exciting time in their lives by making it as stress-free as possible,” she said.

“As well as finding out about the services we can provide, parents will also be able to familiarise themselves with the hospital and the teams so that they are more relaxed when they come for appointments or to give birth.”

A wide range of topics will be covered to help them, including breast feeding, safe sleep, healthy eating, car seat safety and more.

They can also explore the birthing options available to them in Rotherham and meet members of the midwifery team and district nurses.

The first maternity and family showcase will be held on Wednesday (September 4), from 6-8pm, in the postgraduate medical education centre on level D of Rotherham Hospital.

The sessions will be held on the first Wednesday of each month.
