CANNABIS plants were discovered by police after reports of three masked men attempting to break in to a property with a sledgehammer.

Officers were called to reports of a burglary in progress at a property in Sandygate, Wath, on Wednesday December 9 just after 6pm.

It was reported that three masked men were trying to break in to the property with a sledgehammer, said a police spokeswoman.

“They didn't make it in but did cause damage to a door,” she added.

“Officers forced entry to the address to check on the welfare of the occupants. There wasn’t anyone present but they made the discovery of the cannabis farm.

“Numerous plants in the early stages of growth were seized.”

Enquiries are now ongoing.
