Masbrough road closed after 'serious assault'

POLICE have launched an investigation after a man was “seriously assaulted”.

Midland Road in Masbrough is still closed for examination after the incident last night.

A police spokeswoman said: “At around 6.25pm yesterday, emergency services were called to Midland Road roundabout at the junction with Garden Street, Rotherham, following reports a man had been injured.

“Initial reports suggested that the man may have been involved in a collision, but assessment of his injuries at hospital indicate the individual was seriously assaulted.”

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was in hospital today in critical condition.

The spokeswoman added: “Midland Road is closed while investigations take place and officers carry out enquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 666 of February 4.
