The move opens the doors to a 20 day on-line consultation period which is expected to start on Thursday.

A spokeswoman for the project—which will recycle 150 lorry loads of black bag waste from households in Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster each day—said: “The Environmental Permit is a permission that Shanks must obtain from the EA before operating the facility to demonstrate it has a clear management and procedural programme for ensuring that it will operate to required standards.

“A period of 20 working days is allowed for interested parties to comment on the application prior the EA determining the permit.”

The full application is expected to open for consultation at www.environment-agency.gov.uk/research/library/consultations/118031.aspx later this week.
