Manvers nature reserve hosts stargazing night

STARGAZERS will be able to mix nature and nebulae during a special event this weekend.

Mexborough and Swinton Astronomical Society is hosting the event at the RSPB’s Old Moor reserve in Manvers on Saturday, with a guided walk around the beauty spot.

Society member Steve Taylor said: “The evening will start with a choice of guided walk to the birdhides to watch the wonderful wildfowl come in to roost.  “You may even see the barn owls return to their nests or even our elusive bitterns settling down in the reed beds.

“Following the walks the astronomy society will be on hand to show you the wonders of the night sky through their powerful telescopes and in the classroom will be an amazing presentation of film footage of the stars.”

Old Moor’s visitor centre will feature a demonstration of a planetarium to show you the wider planetary systems and the on-site cafe will be screening new footage of earth taken by the international space station.

The Nature and Nebulae Stargazing Live event runs from 3pm to 6.30pm and booking is essential.

Entry is £5 for adults, £4 for members and £3 for children, with all proceeds going to charity.
