A “MANIPULATIVE and sexually deviant” father who groomed and abused a 12-year-old girl has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Kamir Ifzal Khan (31) sent the girl more than 4,300 messages over a three-month period, sexually assaulted her in Meadowhall and told her he wanted to marry her.

He admitted sexual communication with a child, causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and two counts of sexual assault of a child.

Prosecutor Mr Ian Goldsack said the offending had come to light when the victim’s mother saw messages on her daughter’s phone, which had made the youngster “panic”.

Khan began contacting the victim via Snapchat when she was 11, paying her compliments, and moved to messaging her on WhatsApp after finding out her number.

Khan — who previously lived at Eldon Road in Eastwood, and St Ann’s — told the girl to store his phone number under a fake name, which she did.

Mr Goldsack said: “When it was her 12th birthday, he wished her happy birthday. He was clearly aware of her age.”

He sent naked pictures of himself and asked her to do the same but she refused.

Khan told her he wanted to marry her when she reached Year 11, discussed booking a hotel and talked about taking her away, said Mr Goldsack.

When he was arrested in March 2019, Khan gave police an unregistered mobile phone. He had sent fake messages to it — pretending to be the victim saying she was 17.

Mitigating, Ms Catherine Silverton said: “There’s work to be done with this defendant.

“While he accepts full responsibility by his pleas, there is much progress made in relation to his understanding of the seriousness of his actions.”

Sentencing, Judge Sarah Wright told Khan: “You groomed her by expressing love for this child and saying you wanted to marry her.

“Despite her warnings to you about the trouble you could get in, you continued to contact her, sending naked pictures and asking for naked pictures of her.

“You made completely inappropriate sexual suggestions to her, gradually trying to get her used to the idea of sex.”

Judge Wright said the girl had believed she would get the blame for what was happening but — due to the “sophistication” of Khan’s grooming — she remained in contact with him.

“You put her under pressure to comply with your demands,” said the judge. “She is not to blame, whatsoever, in any way shape or form.

“She was a child, a little girl. You are a manipulative, sexually deviant adult with an inappropriate sexual interest in a child.”

The abuse had a “devastating impact” on the victim and her family, who had been “driven out of their home”, said Judge Wright.

She said it was appalling the girl had been blamed by others for the abuse and she had been “robbed of her childhood”.
