Man who downloaded child abuse images in Rotherham spared jail

A MAN who downloaded indecent images of children, including those of the most extreme nature, has been put on the sex offender’s register for five years.

Derek Powers (61), of The Avenue, Royston, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday after admitting three counts of making indecent images of children.

He downloaded 21 images to his laptop in Rotherham between 2007 and 2018.

He had eight category A images (the most extreme level), six category B images and seven category C images.

Powers was given an 18-month community order and was ordered to pay an £85 victim surcharge.
