Man to stand trial over Millers trouble

A MAN charged in relation to trouble at a Rotherham United away game last season will stand trial more than a year after the incident happened.

Connor Turford (18) was one of 13 men arrested and charged after trouble flared in two pubs in Burton-on-Trent and at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium last February.

Turford (18) of Washington Road, Goldthorpe, faces a charged of affray at the Lord Burton pub and appeared at Stafford Crown Court and is now due to stand trial on March 6 next year — almost 13 months after his alleged offence took place.

Two other men arrested following the trouble admitted affray when they appeared at Stafford two weeks ago.

Joshua Lomax (22), of Osbert Road, Rotherham, was charged with two counts of affray at  Lord Burton and Rileys Snooker Hall and was handed a six-month prison term suspended for two years and ordered to carry out 133 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £535 court costs.

Michael Gott (33), of Bawtry Road, Rotherham, also admitted affray at Rileys and is due to be sentenced in the week beginning December 16.

A further defendant, Jamie Bush, of Oval Road, East Dene, will be sentenced for affray next year, following the conclusion of Turford’s trial.
