The resident returned home just before 8.10pm on Friday, when two men in balaclavas were inside the property on Pringle Road in Brinsworth.

An engagement ring was taken, along with a Rolex Yatch Master, TAG Monaco 1860, TAG Mclaren SR, TAG Monaco and TAG SR 300 watches.

The limited edition Monaco 1860 is easily distinguishable as only 1,000 were made, South Yorkshire Police said.

A spokesperson added: “The two men then made off with a large amount of cash as well as the watches and jewellery. The items were carried out in a pillowcase.”

Det Sgt Andy Charleston, of Rotherham CID, said: “This was a very distressing incident for the victim and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything or has dashcam footage of any suspicious activity in the Brinsworth area around this time to get in contact.

“I would also ask anyone who is offered one of these watches for sale to get in contact with police.”
