Man suffers smoke inhalation after fire in flats

FIRE crews spent more than two hours tackling a blaze in a block of flats in Rotherham town centre on Friday night which left a man suffering smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were called to the incident at 9.50pm on High Street. 

An ambulance was also called to treat the casualty who lived in one of the flats.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “The accidental fire involved rubbish in a lobby area.

“One man suffered smoke inhalation. 

“Crews left the scene at 11.55pm.”
