POLICE have launched an appeal for witnesses after an accident in which a 20-year-old man was seriously hurt.

The crash happened at 8.45pm last night on Wath Road in Mexborough, and involved a black Renault Megane being driven by a 24-year-old man and a white Peugeot scooter being ridden by the 20-year-old.

Police said that the Megane was pulling out of the junction of Cambridge Street and turning right to enter Wath Road when it was involved in a collision with the red and white scooter, which was travelling along Wath Road towards Mexborough.

The scooter rider is from Bessacarr, Doncaster, and suffered a

dislocated knee, a cut to his groin and cuts and bruises when he was thrown

from the scooter in the collision.

A 34-year-old female passenger in the Megane, who was from Mexborough, suffered whiplash.

The 24-year-old driver of the car was arrested and released on bail.
