Man seriously hurt as lamppost falls on car

ONE man is being treated for serious head injuries and another has been arrested after a car ploughed along steel fence and demolished a lamppost.

South Yorkshire Police said a red Fiat Punto hit the fencing and lamppost on Doncaster Road at Denaby Main.

The lamppost fell on the car, crushing a rear seat passenger who was cut free.

The 23-year-old, from Scawthorpe, was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary, where he was detained.

The 21-year-old driver, of Denaby Main, who suffered shock and slight injuries, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
