Man killed in motorway incident

A MAN has died after being in collision with a lorry on the M1 motorway this afternoon.

The incident happened at about 2.30pm between junctions 34 and 35 northbound.

The motorway has been closed and traffic diverted.

Eyewitness Zaheer Ahmed, of Renishaw Avenue in Rotherham, said he was in a car travelling along the motorway when he came across the incident.

He told the Advertiser: “It was quite a nasty situation.

“People were screaming and crying.

“I was driving down and I said to my cousin ‘is that a dead body in the road?’”

Mr Ahmed said he covered up the body of the white male who he said was killed.

There are delays on the motorway from junction 33 northwards.
