A MAN has been arrested in connection with two armed robberies which occurred at the same post office within 24 hours.

Catcliffe Post Office was first targeted on Tuesday at 3.45pm when a man threatened staff with a broken glass bottle and made off with cash and cigarettes.

The Brinsworth Road shop was targeted again at 6.15pm on Wednesday.

A man is reported to have forced a shop assistant behind the counter and made demands for cash and cigarettes, a police spokeswoman said.

"The shop owner then entered the store and tried to detain the offender, who is said to have picked up a bottle and hit the owner with it, causing a cut to his head," added the spokeswoman.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of robbery and remained in custody, said the spokeswoman.
