A MAN has been arrested after a 23-year-old woman was seriously injured in an accident after apparently being hit by a car going the wrong way around   a roundabout.

The smash happened at the roundabout junction of Knavesmire Avenue and Outgang Lane in Dinnington last night at about 9pm.

A police spokesman said: "A grey Renault Clio was travelling along Outgang Lane towards Thurcroft when it appears to have moved onto the offside of the road and continued around the incorrect side of the roundabout.

"The Clio has then collided head-on with a silver Peugeot 206, which had approached the roundabout from the same direction but was turning around to head back towards Dinnington."

The female front seat passenger in the Peugeot, a 23-year-old Doncaster woman, suffered serious back injuries in the collision was taken to Bassetlaw Hospital, where she was kept in overnight.

The driver of the Peugeot, a 24-year-old Doncaster man, and his rear seat passenger, a one-year-old Doncaster boy, suffered minor injuries in the collision and were also taken to hospital but not detained.

The driver of the Clio, a 20-year-old Rotherham man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and released on police bail.
