Man guilty of harassment for 150 phone calls a day

A MAN has been handed a suspended jail term for harassment, after calling his ex-partner 150 times in one day.

Glyn Anthony Burkinshaw (28), of Reader Crescent in Swinton, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday.

He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, for harassing Nichola Manion with 50 phone calls and 100 voicemails on February 20.

He was also given a four-week curfew, to be monitored by electronic tag, and made subject to a restraining order.

The order prevents him from contacting Ms Manion other than through her parents for the purpose of arranging child contact.

He is also banned from entering Ash Grove, in Rawmarsh, and from going within 50m of Clay Pitt News on Clay Pitt Lane, Rawmarsh.

Burkinshaw was also given another two-week suspended sentence, to run concurrently, for criminal damage.

The court heard that he had damaged a door handle belonging to Rotherham Borough Council on February 19.
