Man fights for life after Wath shooting

And police are hunting for the gunman after the shooting near the Everest Takeaway in Doncaster Road.

Armed officers went to the scene after several people called the ambulance service to report a man suffering from a gunshot wound at 8.40pm last night.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is said to have life-threatening injuries.

Officers are still on the scene and the road is closed with diversions in place. Police say enquiries are continuing today but there is no threat to the public.

Locals said theywere stunned by the shooting today.

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police immediately on 101 or 999 in an emegency quoting incident number 1146 of 20 September 2012.
