Man due at court accused of animal cruelty in Goldthorpe

A MAN is due to appear in court charged with animal cruelty following an incident in Goldthorpe yesterday (Wednesday).

James Hodgson (31), of Victoria Street, Goldthorpe, will appear at Barnsley Magistrates' Court today following the incident on Barnsley Road.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called yesterday to reports of a person using a metal chain to cause harm to a dog.

The dog was taken to a vets to receive care and treatment, added the spokeswoman.

Hodgson has been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, using threatening and abusive behaviour to cause fear and harm and for breach of a domestic violence protection order.
