Man dies in M1 smash

An investigation is under way after a man died following in a crash on the M1 motorway.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that a man had died in an incident on the southbound carriageway near to Woodall services at around noon today (16).

She revealed: “The incident involved one car, a black Seat Leon, which had been driven by a man who later died.

“No further details of the incident, or his identity, will be released until his family have been informed.”

Tailbacks reached as far north as junction 32, the M18, as a four hour clear-up operation was carried out after the incident.

All southbound acarriegeways were reopened just before 4pm.
