A MAN has died after a fire at his flat in Tinsley.

Firefighters were called to the second-floor flat on St Lawrence Road at 10.55am today (Wednesday) and remain at the scene, a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

Crews from Parkway, Rotherham, Elm Lane and Barnsley have been tackling the fire, she added.

"Upon arrival, crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the flats to tackle the fire which was located on the second floor of the building," said the spokeswoman.

"There were no other casualties involved in the incident.

"A multi-agency investigation will take place to determine the cause of the fire."

A police spokeswoman said the force was working with SYFR to determine the cause of the fire, but were not treating it as suspicious.
