Man denies raping boy and telling him sexual abuse ‘would be fun’

A MAN has gone on trial accused of sexually abusing a boy more than a decade ago.

Daljet Singh (37), of Sandbeds Road, Walsall, is on trial at Sheffield Crown Court accused of nine sexual offences against a boy, including rape, in 2006 and 2007.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, would have been ten and eleven-years-old at the time of the alleged offences, which are said to have taken place in Rotherham.

Singh, who would have been in his mid-20s, denies four counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, two counts of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child and one count of voyeurism.

The boy told a nurse when he was 18 that he had been raped multiple times when he was 11, prosecutor Mr Richard Thyne said.

He did not want to make a formal complaint at that time, but, a year-and-a-half later he reported it to the police.

The complainant said Singh had asked to kiss him on his cheek and then his lips, said Mr Thyne.

“The complainant thought at the time it was odd because he didn’t even kiss his parents on the lips,” said Mr Thyne.

“However, he couldn’t really say no and so he went along with it.”

It is alleged Singh later made the boy perform a sexual act on him, telling him “it would be fun”.

He then made the boy perform more sexual acts on him and, later, raped him multiple times, Mr Thyne said.

The boy would see Singh taking videos and photos on his phone, the court heard.

Singh was quizzed by police in June 2017 and denied committing any sexual acts on the boy or making him perform any sexual acts on him.

“He said there was one occasion when he had shared a double bed with the complainant but nothing had taken place,” said Mr Thyne.

Singh denies all of the offences.

The trial is due to last a week.
