Man charged with Maltby pub killing

A 30-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder following an altercation at a Maltby pub has been charged with the offence.

Daniel Gerrard, of Highfield Park, Maltby, appeared before magistrates in Rotherham earlier this morning.

A police spokeswoman confirmed: “The 30-year-old Maltby man arrested on suspicion of murder has now been charged and remanded to custody until his next court appearance.”

Gerrard is  accused of murdering 45-year-old Dinnington man Robert David Hurdley, who died after an incident in Maltby’s Don Jon Hotel at around 10pm on Sunday.

The father-of-three sustained a serious head injury and was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
