Man charged following attempted bank robbery and kidnap

Michael Edward Dunphy (45), of Worsley, Manchester, has been charged after a woman and her young child were kidnapped before being driven to Barclays Bank in Stag, where there was an attempted robbery.

Three other people — a 37-year-old woman, a 36-year-old man and a 22-year-old man  were arrested and released on bail.

Dunphy, of Barton Close, Worsley, was recalled into custody and will appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, December 12.

Det Insp Mark Monteiro, leading the investigation, said: “This is very much an ongoing investigation and we are continuing to follow up enquiries into these incidents which we believe were targeted.

“I’d like to thank the public for their response and co-operation during this investigation.”
