Man charged after Rotherham robbery

A MAN has been charged with robbery following incidents in Rotherham town centre.

Mark Lawton (44), of no fixed abode, was charged yesterday following incidents in the Wellgate area on Wednesday, December 6, and Friday, December 8.

He has been charged with robbery, possession of a bladed article and witness intimidation following the two incidents.

Police received reports that at around 10pm on December 8 a man was threatened with a knife and had cash stolen.

Two days later, the same man was reportedly approached and allegedly warned not to talk to the police.

Lawton has been remanded in custody and a police spokesman said the investigation remained ongoing.
