CAR enthusiasts using roads like "race tracks" near an area notoriously known for 'boy racers' to congregate have been blasted by police.

After receiving complaints from members of the public, police attended Cortonwood Retail Park last night (Sunday) where an officer said cars were being "shown off".

The officer added: “We haven’t got a problem with that. What we do have a problem with is a small group thinking it's OK to use the local roads as a race track whilst spectators 'egg' them on by standing in the middle of the road.”

Police stopped several cars, including an Audi (pictured) whose driver was not insured, and issued anti-social notices.

The uninsured driver also tested positive for drugs after police smelled cannabis coming from the vehicle.

The spokesman said: “After a quick test the driver was arrested for providing a positive sample and taken to the station.

“If he is found guilty not only will he lose his licence and possible livelihood, his insurance premiums will be sky high when his ban finishes.

"When will people learn?".
