Man arrested after 'spade attack'

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 27-year-old man was left in hospital with serious head injuries following an alleged attack with a garden spade.

A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking another man with a garden spade.

Police were called to Rosehill Park, Rawmarsh at 7.30pm on Saturday evening after witnesses reported seeing a man being attacked with what appeared to be a spade.

The victim, 27-year-old Nicky Bowen, was initially taken to Rotherham General Hospital before being transferred to Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

He has serious head injuries and is condition is currently described as serious but stable.

The incident happened not far from the park's main entrance gate on Warren Vale Road.

A 24-year-old man from Barnsley has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. He appeared at Rotherham Magistrates' Court this morning and has been remanded in custody.

Police have also arrested a 27-year-old woman from Doncaster who is in custody assisting them with their enquiries.
