Man arrested after fatal crash in Upper Haugh

A MOTORIST was arrested for dangerous driving after a pedestrian died in a crash at Upper Haugh on Friday.

A blue Skoda Fabia was travelling along Haugh Road when the incident happened at the junction with Green Rise at 1.30pm.

The pedestrian — a 43-year-old man — suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency workers’ efforts.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “His family are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.

“The driver of the Skoda, a 20-year-old man from the town, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

“Enquiries are ongoing and police now want to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have seen the Skoda driving in the area prior to the incident.”
