Man arrested after “disturbance” and “racial abuse” in Dinnington

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of affray after an altercation involving racial abuse at a shop in Dinnington last night.

A MAN in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of affray after an altercation involving racial abuse at a shop in Dinnington last night. 

Police said they were currently patrolling the area to provide reassurance following the incident, which left the shop's roller shutter seriously damaged.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “We were called at 5.20pm to reports of a disturbance at a shop in Laughton Road, Dinnington.

“It is reported an altercation had broken out inside the shop between a man and a number of young people, with the man being racially abused.

“During the altercation, damage was caused to two vehicles and the shop. It is understood the damage to the shop was caused by a vehicle being driven at the shop's shutters.

“A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of affray. He remains in police custody at this time.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the group of young people who were involved and police are currently patrolling the area to provide visibility and reassurance.
