Man arrested after Bank Holiday stop and searches in Mexborough

A 40-YEAR-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs after a weekend of police stop and searches in Mexborough.

As part of ongoing activity in Mexborough, Conisbrough and Denaby to tackle organised crime, officers from Doncaster’s Fortify team carried out a number of stop and searches over the Bank Holiday weekend. 

The man - stopped on Arnold Crescent, Mexborough, last night (Monday) - was found to be in possession of suspected heroin, cash, cannabis, and suspected amphetamine and diazepam. He remained in custody today (Tuesday).

A 36-year-old man was also reported on summons for possession of cannabis following a stop and search in Bolton Street, Denaby Main, yesterday (Monday). 

Det Insp Steve Smith, who leads the Fortify team, said: “We are working hard to ensure the residents of Mexborough, Denaby and Conisbrough feel safe where they live and put confidence back in the local community. 

“We are carrying out daily activity to ensure those crime gangs bringing misery on the community are identified and robust action is taken.
