Man (62) dies in M1 southbound collision

A 62-YEAR-old man has died after a fatal collision on the M1 southbound earlier this morning (Monday).

Police received reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian between Junction 36 Tankersley and Junction 35A Stocksbridge at 5.30am.

The pedestrian, a 62-year-old Sheffield man, was pronounced dead at the scene, said a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, added the spokeswoman.

The M1 has now been re-opened following an investigation by officers at the scene. 

Police are asking anyone who saw the collision, or anyone who may have dashcam footage to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 96 of January 20.
