Man (57) charged with Rotherham child sex abuse offences

The 57 year-old, who is from Sheffield, was charged in relation to rape, indecent assault, false imprisonment and assault occasioning actual bodily harm during the 1990s in the Rotherham and surrounding area.

He is due to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on June 22.

The offences were alleged to have been committed between 1996 and 1999 against four female victims, who were aged between 15 and 19 at the time.

Officers from the National Crime Agency announced the arrest as part of Operation Stovewood, which is investigating allegations of abuse in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

Philip Marshall, NCA senior investigating officer, has spoken of the need to seek justice for victims affected by abuse with operations still ongoing in Rotherham.

He said: “We remain focused on seeking justice for and providing support to victims, who remain our first priority.

"Our investigations in Rotherham continue, and I’d urge anyone who believes they may have been a victim between 1997 and 2013, or who might have information that might assist us, to contact us.”
