Man (40) seriously assaulted after waking up to find burglar in his home

The 40-year-old victim was assaulted after being woken up by someone breaking into his home in Booth Street, Greasborough, at around 1.30am on Saturday (4).

The burglar assaulted the homeowner, causing serious head injuries before taking a quantity of cash and leaving the scene in a small black, sport-style hatchback, said a police spokeswoman.

The victim was taken to hospital where he remained in a serious but stable condition.

The offender is described as wearing dark clothing with a hood or possibly wearing a balaclava.
