A MAN has appeared in court charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in Balby.

Benedict Zvekare, of St John's Road, Doncaster, appeared at Doncaster Magistrates' Court on Friday charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in connection with a reported stabbing on Balby Road, Balby, last Monday.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear before Sheffield Crown Court at a later date, police said.

Police were called to Balby Road, Balby, at 2.20pm last Monday, and a man (26) was taken to hospital with suspected stab wounds.

He remains in hospital in a stable condition, police said.

Three other men have been arrested in connection with the incident – a 30-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and two men aged 40 and 19, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, a police spokeswoman said.

All three have been bailed pending further enquiries, she added.
