Mrs Yvonne Wragg, prosecuting, said a sniffer dog patrolling Carver Street had reacted to Parkin Smith and he was searched.

They found a Swiss Army lock knife in his coat and cannabis in his back trouser pocket.

Miss Annette Thomas, mitigating, said Parkin Smith had never been before the courts before or been in trouble with the police.

Parkin Smith was fined £150 and ordered to pay £115 costs for possession of the knife.

There was no separate penalty for the cannabis charge.
