THE fire which wrecked a social club in Maltby last night is being treated as arson.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue was called to Muglet Lane at 5.40pm last night to tackle the blaze at the former Stute club – Maltby Miners’ Welfare Institute.

Crews from Maltby, Aston Park and Edlington stations and a turntable ladder from Parkway attended the scene.

A spokesman said: “Upon arrival, firefighters found the derelict building well alight and spent several hours tackling the fire from different angles – including from above using the turntable ladder.

“The fire was out by 11.30pm and is thought to have been started deliberately.”
