A concerned mum has spoken of her "disbelief" after her 13-year-old son was mugged in the street...for his dog.

Sam Brown was walking along Morrell Street, Maltby, when a man jumped out of a car, pushed him against a wall and grunted "that's my dog" before snatching the lead of his pet greyhound.

The startled teenager watched helplessly as the man dragged the black and white greyhound into a car and was driven from the scene at around 9pm on Saturday (7) night.

Now the youngster's mum has begun a desperate bid to get the dog back.

"I just can't believe that someone would do such a thing," said Julie Brown.

"Sam's 13-years-old but he looks closer to ten—he's only a slight lad. The thought of someone stealing his dog like that is awful.

"He's suffered a bruised leg and has been left really shaken by what happened. He's heartbroken."

The man who took Sam's dog was around five feet eight inches tall, of medium build and had short dark hair.

He was wearing camouflage trousers, trainers, a dark coloured top and spoke with an Irish accent.

The driver of the car—believed to be a black Vauxhall Vectra—had curly hair and was wearing glasses.

Witnesses reported that the gataway car sped from the scene along Blyth Road in the direction of Oldcotes.

Police have now begun an investigation into the incident but Julie has already started making her own enquiries, gathering CCTV footage from properties near the scene of the crime and tapping into contacts in the Maltby area.

She said: "I'm going to do all I can to get Sam's dog back."

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Sam's dog is being urged to contact Julie Brown on 01709 817915 or Pc Karen Whitehead on 01709 832280.
