ROTHERHAM was the setting for a notable TV gaffe this week after red-faced reporter Jonathan Swain was accused of “swearing” during an on-air bungee jump.

The roving reporter was visiting Magna on Tuesday to try his hand at the 100ft jump when he appeared to utter a four-letter word.

He shouted the start of the f-word as he dropped through the air, and as he bounced back up he shouted what sounded like “F***!”, before adding: “Apologies! That was pretty good guys!”

GMTV bosses faced calls to sack Mr Swain and but the TV company and the reporter himself apologised for any offence caused by his mid-jump exclamation.

Critics had demanded that he be fired for being unprofessional and irresponsible during the live-broadcast stunt on Tuesday morning.

A spokesman for GMTV said: “These things happen on a live show. It was a 100ft bungee jump. Jonathan has apologised and no further action is envisaged.”

Industry watchdog Ofcom said that it would will examine any complaints received.
