M1 smart motorway now fully operational through South Yorkshire
DRIVERS should be able to enjoy a quicker journey through South Yorkshire after the M1 smart motorway became fully operational.
There are now four-lanes and overhead gantries with adjustable speed limits between junction 35A for Chapeltown and junction 31 for Aston.
Highways England said further maintenance was planned over the next few weeks, including the installation of further roadside signs, but the smart motorway technology was fully operational.
It means the M1 now runs as a smart motorway from junction 28 for the A38 up to junction 35A for Chapeltown.
