M1 re-opens after crash which claimed life of van driver

A MOTORWAY has re-opened after a crash in which a 61-year-old man died this morning (Wednesday).

Police said a 61-year-old man’s vehicle had overturned after colliding with a barrier between the two junctions.

The northbound carriageway was also closed for a short while to allow the air ambulance to land.

“Emergency services attended but the 61-year-old driver sadly died at the scene,” said a police spokeswoman.

“His family members have been informed and are being supported by our officers."

An investigation is underway and anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident number 164 of April 10 2019.
