M1 queues likely "until next week" after crash puts traffic lights at Meadowhall junction out of action

TAILBACKS at the Meadowhall junction of the M1 could continue until next week after traffic lights were knocked out in a crash.

Highways England confirmed the signal controller and power supply had been damaged at the southbound slip road of junction 34 when they were hit by a vehicle on Saturday.

The lights being out of action has caused rush-hour hold-ups at the notoriously busy roundabout under Tinsley Viaduct.

A spokeswoman said staff were “We are working to get the lights back up and running as soon as possible” but they were likely to be off until early next week.
