“Loyal” Miller who died prior to KO named

THE Rotherham United fan that took ill prior to Saturday’s game with Sheffield Wednesday and died has been named as John Fearns.

The football club said it was deeply saddened by John’s death and it will be requesting a minute’s silence to be held prior to the next home game with Brighton and Hove Albion on April 6 in his honour.

A spokesman for the club added: “Fans have laid flowers at the AESSEAL New York Stadium as a tribute to John who was a loyal supporter and a season ticket holder.

“Any supporters who wish to lay floral tributes to John can do so adjacent to turnstile 12 outside the KCM Recycling North Stand.

“Once again everyone connected with Rotherham United would like to express our deepest condolences to John’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Another male football fan also took ill before the game and was conveyed to Rotherham Hospital.

The two separate incidents happened minutes apart with one occurring on Don Street and the other incident outside a turnstile.

Rotherham United said it was “not in a position” to comment on the condition of the second male supporter and a Sheffield Wednesday spokesman said he believed this man was also a Rotherham United fan.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it recieved the two reports at 2.40pm and 2.47pm.
