'Lots of leads' in hunt for Laura's killer - police

POLICE will carry out a major operation tomorrow in an attempt to bring the killer of young mum Laura Wilson to justice.

Detectives were today making a fresh appeal for witnesses who may hold vital clues to what happened to the 17-year-old, who was found stabbed to death in the South Yorkshire Navigation Canal tow weeks ago.

And tomorrow, police will be on the streets in the area around Steel Street near where her body was found to try to piece together Laura's last moments.

Police and Safer Neighbourhood Team officers will be at the canal near Holmes Lock, visiting local shops and talking to people living in the Ferham area.

Det Supt Mick Mason, the officer leading the investigation, has appealed for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity around Steel Street between Saturday October, 9 and the afternoon of Tuesday, October 12 to come forward.

And he said that the murder team were investigating “a lot of leads.”

Mr Mason said:  “We’re getting a lot of officers out to hopefully find people who may have seen Laura that Saturday within the Ferham area.

“We know she was in the area most of that day. We have spoken to a number of people who were with her and we are piecing together where she went.”

Laura lived with her mum and four-month-old daughter, Alesha, on Hartington Close. Heartbroken relatives are taking care of her baby.

Hundreds of tributes have been paid to the young mum on Facebook. Friends said that Laura was also known as Laura Hussain.

A 17-year-old youth and three men—aged 44, 26 and 22—all from the local area were  arrested on suspicion of murder and have now been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
