Lorry was on fire with driver sleeping inside

A LORRY driver asleep in his HGV on an industrial estate was woken by a security guard who spotted a fire in his vehicle.

The driver was taken to hospital for a check up after the blaze on Hellaby Lane in Hellaby at 3.40am on Wednesday.

Firefighters from Maltby and Aston Park stations dealt with the fire, which was recorded as accidental and believed to be caused by a fault in the cab.

Earlier, a shed fire spread to trees and fencing on Psalters Lane in Holmes.

Fire crews from Rotherham station were called to the deliberate fire at about 8.30pm on Tuesday.
