Lorry loses roof in Parkgate bridge smash

A BRIDGE acted as a giant tin opener when a lorry tried to pass beneath — tearing off the roof.

The incident happened on the A633 Rotherham Road near Parkgate Shopping shortly before 4pm.

South Yorkshire Police are at the scene and the road is expected to be closed in both directions for several hours.

A force spokeswoman said: “Police were called at 3.52pm with reports that an HGV had collided with a bridge near to Morrisons Petrol Station at Parkgate.

“No-one has been injured in the incident. No structural damage is believed to have been caused to the bridge at this time.”
